M12 inductive sensor for non-flush mounting

The Turck NI4-M12-RD4X is a chrome-plated brass proximity switch with a threaded M12 × 1 barrel designed for non-flush installation. It operates on a DC 2-wire circuit at 1065 VDC and provides a normally closed contact output via a cable connection. Electricians and automation technicians use it to detect metal targets without physical contact in industrial environments.

DC 2-wire interface limits cable length

The sensor draws power and signal through the same two conductors, so total loop resistance must stay low enough to maintain the 1065 VDC supply at the device. Long cable runs or undersized wires increase voltage drop and can prevent reliable switching. Installers must calculate the maximum permissible cable length for their specific wire gauge and supply voltage to avoid nuisance trips.

Four millimetre rated switching distance defines

The unit reliably detects ferrous targets up to 4 mm from the sensing face when mounted non-flush. Larger or closer objects trigger the NC contact to open, while targets beyond this range leave the circuit closed. Applications requiring a longer sensing range or flush mounting will need a different sensor model with those specifications.
