Industrial proximity sensor

The Sick VTF18-4N5912 is a cylindrical photoelectric proximity sensor with an NPN switching output. It operates on a 10 V DC to 30 V DC supply with a maximum power consumption of 30 mA. The unit detects objects at distances from 0 mm up to 45 mm using an infrared LED light source. It is designed for automated industrial control and sensing tasks.

Angled housing with cable connection

The sensor features an angled cylindrical housing made of plastic with PMMA optics measuring 60.6 mm in dimension. A fixed 2 m PVC cable with a 0.14 mm² conductor cross-section and 5 mm diameter provides the electrical connection. The enclosure achieves an IP67 rating for protection against dust and temporary water immersion. Sensitivity is adjusted via a built-in potentiometer while the light or dark switching mode is selectable through a control cable.

Wide temperature range operation

The device functions reliably across an ambient operating temperature span of –25 °C to +70 °C with identical storage limits. A response time of 2 ms supports fast switching cycles in typical applications. The supply voltage tolerance includes a 10 % ripple allowance for stable performance on standard industrial power rails. Low current draw minimises thermal load inside cabinets or enclosures.
