Through-beam sensor with 5 m range

The Sick VS/VE12-2P430 is a cylindrical through-beam photoelectric sensor designed for industrial detection tasks. It operates on 10 V DC to 30 V DC supply voltage and provides a PNP switching output with selectable light or dark switching via an L/D control cable. The sensor suits automation engineers and maintenance technicians who need reliable object detection in harsh environments.

Upgrade from diffuse or retro-reflective sensors

This through-beam design separates emitter and receiver to achieve a maximum sensing range of 5 m and a defined sensing range of 4 m, outperforming single-unit sensors where target reflectivity varies. The jump is worthwhile when detecting transparent, low-contrast or small objects at distance, or when ambient light immunity is critical. The infrared LED at 880 nm wavelength produces a focused spot of Ø 100 mm at 4 m with an approximate 1.4° dispersion angle.

Limits of the M12 connector and IP67 housing

The male M12 4-pin connector restricts cabling to compatible 4-wire leads and limits the switching frequency to 250 Hz with a 2 ms response time. The IP67-rated nickel-plated brass and PA housing withstands ambient temperatures from –25 °C to +70 °C but is not rated for high-pressure washdown beyond the standard. The fixed 20 mA power consumption and 100 mA maximum output current constrain use in high-speed or high-current control loops without external amplification.
