Industrial Position Sensing

The Autonics E50S8-300-3-T-24 is an incremental rotary encoder built for precise angular measurement in automation systems. It delivers 300 pulses per revolution through a totem-pole output stage suitable for direct connection to PLC inputs. The 8 mm solid shaft mounts directly to motor or machine axes. A 12-24 VDC supply with ±5 % tolerance powers the unit.

Speed and Environmental Limits

Maximum response frequency reaches 300 kHz, supporting rotational speeds up to 5000 rpm without signal loss. Starting torque is capped at 70 gf·cm (0.00686 N·m), minimising load on small drives. The IP50 housing protects internal optics from dust ingress but offers no water resistance, so the encoder must be mounted inside a sealed enclosure. Axial cable exit simplifies wiring in tight cabinets.

Upgrade From Lower Resolution Units

This model replaces encoders with coarser pulse counts when finer position granularity is required for servo tuning or cut-to-length accuracy. The jump is worthwhile when the control loop demands tighter error bands than 300 P/R can resolve. It does not suit applications needing absolute position retention after power loss or environments exposing the shaft seal to liquids.
