Dual LGA 2011 1U barebone server

The Supermicro SYS-6017R-73THDP is a new 1U rackmount barebone server that accepts two Intel Xeon E5-2600 or E5-2600 v2 processors up to 130W TDP each. It targets system integrators and IT departments building dense storage or compute nodes. Sixteen 240-pin DDR3 slots support up to 1TB LRDIMM, 512GB RDIMM or 192GB UDIMM capacity with ECC. Twelve fixed 3.5-inch drive bays provide high-density local storage in a single rack unit.

Sustained load behaviour

Dual 130W processor support combined with a 650W high-efficiency power supply allows continuous operation at rated TDP without thermal throttling in standard rack environments. The Intel C602 chipset and LSI 2308 controller deliver eight 6Gbps SAS2 ports plus six SATA ports with hardware RAID 0, 1, 5, 10 and software RAID 0, 1, 10 for consistent throughput under heavy I/O. Matrox G200eW graphics handle remote management consoles without adding GPU heat.

Build quality and daily implications

Fixed 3.5-inch bays simplify drive installation but prevent hot-swap servicing without chassis modification. Two low-profile expansion slots — one PCIe 2.0 x4 in an x8 connector and one PCIe 3.0 x8 — limit add-in cards to half-height or low-profile form factors. Dual Intel X540 1 Gigabit LAN ports provide redundant network paths for management and data traffic. The compact 1U depth suits standard cabinets but restricts cooler height to low-profile models only.
