USB-to-DC step-up cable for 5 V devices

This cable converts a USB Quick Charge 3.0 port into a 5 V 1.5 A DC output with a 2.1 x 5.5 mm barrel plug. It is designed for routers, LED strips and other equipment that requires a centre-positive 5 V supply. The module draws power from a compatible USB charger or power bank and steps the voltage up to the required level. No separate mains adapter is needed when a suitable USB source is available.

Limited to QC 3.0 sources and 1.5 A output

The step-up function only activates when the host port negotiates Quick Charge 3.0; standard USB ports will not provide the necessary voltage. Maximum continuous current is 1.5 A, so devices drawing more than this will not operate correctly. Polarity is fixed as centre-positive and cannot be reversed. Buyers whose hardware needs a different plug size, higher current or a non-QC power source cannot use this cable.

Questions about this item

What does the 5.5 mm figure refer to on this cable?

The 5.5 mm is the outer diameter of the DC barrel plug, which pairs with the 2.1 mm inner pin to fit many routers and LED strips.

What does the 1.5 A rating mean when the cable is powering a router?

The cable can deliver up to 1.5 A at 5 V, so it will run a router that draws 1.5 A or less provided the USB source supports QC 3.0.
