Signal distribution

This 1x2 SDI splitter takes a single SD-SDI, HD-SDI or 3G-SDI source and sends it to two BNC outputs simultaneously. It is built for broadcast engineers, AV installers and camera operators who need identical feeds on two monitors or recorders. The unit auto-detects the incoming standard and re-clocks the signal for clean distribution. A blue LED confirms valid input while a red LED flags missing or incorrect signals.

Build integration

The splitter accepts DC 5 V to 30 V input, so it can run from a standard 5 V/1 A supply or a wider project voltage rail. One BNC input and two BNC outputs keep cabling simple on set or in a rack. No software configuration is required; the device is plug-and-play once power and coaxial links are connected. Its wide voltage range makes it suitable for mobile trucks and fixed installations alike.

Capacity and headroom

The repeater function equalises and re-clocks signals for runs up to 400 metres with SD-SDI at 270 Mbps, 200 metres with HD-SDI at 1.485 Gbps and 100 metres with 3G-SDI at 2.97 Gbps when tested on Belden 1694A cable. It handles 1080P formats across SMPTE 259M, 292M and 424M standards. Builders needing more than two outputs or fibre conversion will need a different distribution approach.
