M.2 NVMe PCIe 3.0 x1 adapter

This adapter converts an M Key M.2 NVMe solid-state drive into a PCI Express 3.0 x1 add-in card. It targets desktop owners whose motherboard lacks an M.2 slot but has a free PCIe x1 or larger expansion slot. The card provides a direct electrical path from the drive to the bus without protocol translation.

Sustained throughput limited by single lane

Because the host link is PCIe 3.0 x1, continuous read and write speeds cannot exceed the bandwidth of one lane. Sequential transfers that saturate a four-lane drive will throttle to the single-lane ceiling during extended workloads. Thermal throttling on the drive itself remains governed by the SSD controller and any onboard heatsink.

Boot support depends on platform firmware

The adapter relies on the system BIOS or UEFI to recognise an NVMe device behind a PCIe x1 port. Older platforms may only initialise such drives after the operating system loads, preventing use as a boot volume. No bridge chip or RAID function is present, so the drive appears as a single endpoint to the operating system.
