Limits of the ATX Extension Standard

Extensions add 300 mm to the existing PSU cables, so total reach depends on the original loom length and case layout. The male 5557 to female 5559 connectors follow the ATX pinout, but the kit cannot compensate for a PSU that lacks the required native headers. Builders needing longer runs or non-standard pinouts must look elsewhere.

Installation Ease and Common Issues

Each cable ships pre-assembled with two combs already fitted, so routing is largely a matter of snapping the extensions onto the PSU leads and seating the combs. The pre-bent 180° design helps the looms sit flat, but the stiff sleeving can resist tight bends behind motherboard trays. Forcing the connectors or disassembling the crimps without proper tools risks damaged pins.
