The UOTEK UT-5209 is an addressable data converter that bridges RS-232, RS-485 and RS-422 interfaces in both directions. It operates from a 9-30VDC supply drawing 350mA and provides optical isolation rated at 2.5KV rms plus 600W per line surge protection. The unit fits a 120mm by 80mm by 25mm enclosure with dual terminal-block connectors and is rated for -40 to 85 Celsius at up to 95 percent humidity.

This converter suits automation engineers who need to link mixed RS-232, RS-485 and RS-422 equipment over distances up to 5000 metres at 9600bps. It supports up to 128 devices on each RS-485/422 segment and handles asynchronous half-duplex communication without external RTS control. Buyers requiring full-duplex RS-422 operation, baud rates above 115.2Kbps or fibre-optic transmission should look at other products.

Configurable throughput and bus loading

Software-configurable addresses and baud rates from 2400bps to 115.2Kbps give headroom for most industrial fieldbus loads. The true 3-wire TXD/RXD/GND scheme simplifies cabling while the isolation barrier prevents common-ground interference. At the highest rates the 5000 metre reach decreases, and the 128-device limit per segment caps total node count for large installations.
