Thermal Grizzly
A CNC-milled acrylic tool that lets you lap Intel LGA 1700 heatspreaders by .2 mm using included 400, 1200 and 2500 grit sandpaper
This CNC-milled acrylic glass tool simplifies the process of lapping the integrated heat spreader on compatible Intel processors. It supports 13th and 14th Generation Core CPUs and is also compatible with 12th Generation models. The kit includes the mounting hardware and sandpaper needed to perform the modification.
The tool uses ridges on the acrylic surface as a depth gauge for removing exactly 0.2 millimetres of material from the heat spreader. Sanding is performed manually using the included grit 400, 1200 and 2500 papers until the ridges disappear. Grinding the CPU will invalidate the manufacturer warranty on the processor.
The lapping tool is designed for single use and fits the LGA 1700 socket interface used by the supported Intel generations. Buyers who need a reusable fixture or who want to lap processors on different socket types cannot use this product.

| Features | The 13th/14th Gen Lapping-Tool for Intel CPUs allows safe grinding of the heatspreader. The CPU is mounted onto the tool and the removal of 0.2mm is possible. Also compatible with 12th Gen CPUs. Enclosed is sandpaper with 400, 1200 and 2,500 grit. |
Place the LGA 1700 processor onto the CNC-milled acrylic glass base and secure it using the enclosed screws. The clear ridges around the socket sit .2 millimetres high; stop sanding once those ridges are completely removed.
The manufacturer recommends single use only. After one lapping session the acrylic guide ridges are gone, so the tool cannot guarantee the .2 millimetre limit again. Replace the entire tool if you need to lap another CPU.
The .2 millimetre ridge height is the hard stop. Once the acrylic ridges vanish you have reached the maximum safe material removal for 12th, 13th and 14th Gen Intel CPUs.
