2.5" SATA to Power eSATA adapter

Requires Power eSATA port and 5 V drive

The host must present a Power eSATA connector that merges eSATA data with USB 5 V power; a standard eSATA port without the USB pin will not supply the necessary voltage. Because the cable delivers only 5 V, it supports 2.5 inch drives rated for 5 V operation and cannot power 3.5 inch or 5.25 inch units that require a 12 V rail. No additional power brick or enclosure is needed when the host port and drive voltage match.

Sustained transfers limited by 5 V budget

Under continuous read or write workloads the drive draws power exclusively from the host's USB 5 V line, so performance remains stable only while the port can maintain its current rating. If the host port current limit is reached, the drive may throttle or disconnect during prolonged heavy I/O.
