The StarTech MDP2HDMI is a passive converter cable that connects an HDMI display to a Mini DisplayPort source. It is compatible with Intel Thunderbolt 1 and 2 ports that carry DisplayPort signals.

Check your port type before ordering

This adapter only works with DP++ (DisplayPort++) ports that can output HDMI and DVI signals natively. Standard DisplayPort-only ports will not pass video through this passive dongle. Verify that your laptop, desktop or docking station specifies DP++ or multi-mode support in its documentation. The male Mini DisplayPort plug fits Thunderbolt 1 and 2 ports directly, but Thunderbolt 3 or 4 ports need a separate USB-C to Mini DisplayPort adapter first. Audio pass-through depends on the source device supporting HDMI audio over its Mini DisplayPort output.

Not for users needing active conversion

Buyers whose source lacks a DP++ port cannot use this passive adapter and must choose an active converter instead. It does not support resolutions above 1920x1200 or refresh rates beyond standard 1080p timing. Users requiring longer reach should pair it with a quality HDMI cable rather than relying on the short dongle alone.
