The Sophos XGS 2300 is a 1U rackmount firewall appliance built for mid-sized and distributed organisations. It combines an AMD x86 CPU with a Marvell Xstream Flow Processor to handle encryption, inspection and acceleration tasks in parallel. Eight copper Gigabit Ethernet ports and two SFP fibre ports provide flexible WAN and LAN connectivity out of the box. The unit ships with 8 GB of DDR4 system memory and a 120 GB SATA SSD for logs and reporting.

Sustained throughput with dual-processor offload

Under continuous load the dedicated NPU offloads trusted application traffic through FastPath, keeping the main CPU free for deep packet inspection and TLS 1.3 decryption. Published figures show 39 Gbps firewall throughput, 20 Gbps IMIX, 7 Gbps IPS and 1.45 Gbps TLS inspection without performance collapse. The short-depth chassis fits standard racks and includes a rackmount kit, while a second power supply can be added for redundancy.

Replaces single-CPU edge boxes lacking hardware

Organisations upgrading from appliances that rely on a single general-purpose CPU for both routing and inspection will see the largest gain when encrypted traffic volumes grow. The jump is worth it when SD-WAN orchestration, sandboxing and zero-day protection must run simultaneously without adding separate sensors. Buyers who need high-density 10 GbE or PoE switch ports on the same chassis should evaluate larger XGS models with additional Flexi Port bays.
