Mid-sized network protection

The Sophos XGS 4300 is a 1U rackmount firewall appliance designed for mid-sized and distributed organisations that need high-throughput inspection and flexible connectivity. It combines an AMD x86 CPU with a Marvell NPU, 32 GB of DDR4 ECC memory and a 240 GB SATA-III SSD to run the full Xstream protection suite. Eight copper ports at 1 GbE and 2.5 GbE plus four SFP+ 10 GbE fibre ports give diverse uplink options without extra modules. A management port, console ports and front USB 3.0 complete the I/O set.

Straightforward rack deployment

The unit ships with a rackmount kit and fits a standard 19-inch cabinet at 438 mm wide, 510 mm deep and 44 mm high. Dual power-supply bays allow a second supply to be added for redundancy, and a centrally powered PoE Flexi Port module can be fitted later if PoE devices need backup power. Expansion slots are not present on this model, so connectivity changes must use the built-in ports or the single Flexi Port bay. Weight reaches 8.7 kg unpacked, so two-person lifting or a shelf is advisable during installation.

Sustained inspection throughput

Under continuous load the appliance delivers 75 Gbps firewall throughput, 33 Gbps IMIX, 29.5 Gbps IPS and 62 Gbps IPsec VPN performance. TLS 1.3 inspection holds at 8 Gbps, enabling encrypted traffic visibility without collapsing the data plane. FastPath offloading moves trusted application flows to the NPU, keeping the CPU free for deep packet inspection and sandboxing tasks during prolonged threat events. The fan-cooled 1U chassis maintains these rates within the specified operating envelope.
