This adapter cable converts a USB keyboard, mouse or scanner to a classic PS/2 round port. An integrated chip handles signal conversion to keep latency low and cursor movement steady. PS/2 interface limits and chip conversion

The PS/2 standard carries only keyboard and mouse data and does not supply the 5 V power rail that some USB devices expect. The built-in chip translates USB signalling to the PS/2 protocol, so hot-plugging is not supported and the host must recognise the peripheral at boot. Bandwidth is limited to the PS/2 clock rate, which is sufficient for standard input devices but not for high-rate gaming mice.

Check your host port and device power needs

Verify that the target system has a standard 6-pin PS/2 port and that its BIOS or operating system can enumerate a PS/2 keyboard or mouse at startup. Confirm that the USB peripheral draws no more current than the PS/2 port can deliver, as the adapter does not add an external power source. Some scanners or illuminated keyboards may exceed that budget and fail to initialise.
