PCIe 5.0 x4 NVMe Adapter

This SMUGDESK adapter converts a PCIe 5.0 x4 slot into an M.2 NVMe B+M Key interface. It targets desktop, workstation and server builders who want to add fast NVMe storage without native M.2 support. The card fits PCIe x4, x8 and x16 slots and works with Windows and Linux without extra drivers. It suits users upgrading older platforms or expanding drive count on current systems.

Supported M.2 Sizes and Capacity Headroom

The adapter accepts 2230, 2240, 2260 and 2280 form-factor SSDs, covering the common lengths found in consumer and enterprise drives. Any NVMe drive within those sizes will operate at the full PCIe 5.0 x4 bandwidth the slot provides. Capacity is limited only by the chosen SSD; the adapter itself imposes no ceiling. Builders needing 22110 or EDSFF drives cannot use this card.

PCIe 5.0 x4 Interface Limits

The card delivers 16 GT/s per lane across four lanes, the native speed of PCIe 5.0 x4. Performance scales with the host slot; an x8 or x16 slot still provides only four lanes to the M.2 device. Motherboards limited to PCIe 4.0 or 3.0 will run the SSD at those lower speeds. Systems without bifurcation support may not recognise the drive in certain slot configurations.
