Two-cable Cat 6 patch set

Practical limits of Cat 6 550 MHz

The TIA/EIA 568B.2 standard rates this construction at 550 MHz bandwidth, which handles gigabit Ethernet up to 100 m. Beyond that distance, or in environments with strong electromagnetic interference, the unshielded design may not maintain full throughput. The 7 ft length is well within the certified range, so performance is limited by the connected ports rather than the cable itself. Shielded alternatives would be needed for high-noise areas.

Check your ports and routing before ordering

Verify that both devices you intend to link have standard RJ45 Ethernet ports; proprietary or locking connectors will not mate with these plugs. Ensure the 7 ft reach suits the distance between the two endpoints without stretching or sharp bends that could damage the 24 AWG conductors. If your installation requires plenum-rated or outdoor-rated jackets, these PVC-sheathed cables do not meet those requirements.
