PAL NES and SNES power adapter

This EU-plug power supply is built for original PAL NES and SNES consoles, delivering a regulated 9 V DC at up to 1 A from a 100–250 V AC mains input. It includes over-heat and short-circuit protection and meets RoHS and European standards. The 1.2 m lead ends in a 5.5 mm × 2.1 mm barrel connector. It is not suitable for consoles that require a different voltage, polarity or higher current.

Build integration and cable management

The adapter plugs directly into a European wall socket, so no separate IEC lead or power strip is needed inside the case. Its 1.2 m cable reaches most desktop setups without extension cords, keeping the console area tidy. The fixed EU two-pin plug means it cannot be used with UK, US or Australian outlets without a separate travel adapter. Builders needing a detachable mains lead or a longer cable will need a different solution.

Capacity limits and headroom

The unit supplies a maximum of 1 A at 9 V, covering the stock power draw of PAL NES and SNES systems with a small margin. It will not support consoles or accessories that draw more than 1 A, nor will it work with NTSC models that expect a different input specification. The single-output design cannot power two consoles simultaneously. Users with modded hardware requiring higher current must source a higher-rated supply.

Questions about this item

What is the maximum continuous current this adapter can supply before its protection circuits engage?

The adapter is rated for a maximum output current of 1A; internal protection activates if that limit is exceeded.

How much heat or noise does the unit produce when left plugged in all day?

It runs silently with no fan and only becomes warm during normal operation thanks to built-in over-heat protection.

Which console connector does the cable terminate in so I can confirm it fits my hardware?

The lead ends in a 5.5 mm × 2.1 mm DC barrel plug designed for PAL NES and SNES consoles.
