This tester checks RJ45, RJ11 and RJ12 cables including Cat5, Cat6 and 10/100 Base-T wiring. It is built for installers and technicians who need to verify cable integrity on site. The handheld unit scans automatically and uses eight LEDs to show open, short or miswired conductors on both master and remote modules. Power comes from a 9V battery which is not supplied.

Replaces manual continuity checks

The automatic scan mode runs through all pins sequentially so you see faults instantly without probing each wire by hand. It is worth the jump when you regularly test runs up to 1000 ft and need to identify exactly which pair is open or crossed. The remote kit lets one person test installed cables from both ends without walking back and forth.

The tester stops being useful when you need to certify bandwidth, measure attenuation or document results for warranty paperwork because it only reports continuity and wiring order. It also cannot test shielded or fibre cables.
