Practical limits of the Cat6 UTP standard

Cat6 unshielded twisted pair supports gigabit ethernet up to one hundred metres, but alien crosstalk can reduce reliable ten-gigabit runs to fifty-five metres. The 24 AWG stranded conductors favour flexibility over maximum reach, so performance drops off sooner on longer channels than solid-core cable. Gold-plated contacts rated at 50 microns resist corrosion but do not extend the distance limits defined by the TIA/EIA-568-C.2 standard.

Check your existing setup before ordering

Verify that a seven-foot length reaches between your devices without tension; longer runs need a different cable.
