Cat5e Punch Down Keystone Jack

The Monoprice 5378 is a Cat5e punch down keystone jack designed for network cabling installations. It fits standard keystone wall plates or patch panels to provide a reliable RJ45 connection point. The module uses a punch down termination method for solid or stranded wire. It is suited for installers building or repairing structured wiring in homes or offices.

Thermals noise and power draw

This passive component has no active electronics, so it generates no heat and produces no audible noise during operation. It draws zero power because it simply routes the conductors through the IDC contacts. The jack adds no thermal load to a cabinet or wall cavity. Its electrical performance depends on the quality of the punch down termination.

Upgrade and replacement scenarios

The jack replaces a damaged or outdated keystone module in an existing wall plate or patch panel. It upgrades older Category 3 or voice grade jacks to support Cat5e performance for data networks. The change is worth it when rewiring a drop for Ethernet speeds up to 1 Gbps. It is not for fibre optic links or shielded cable installations requiring a screened jack.
