Mini DisplayPort 1.2a Thunderbolt adapter

This active adapter connects a VGA monitor to a Mini DisplayPort or Thunderbolt video output on a PC or Mac. It conforms to the DisplayPort 1.2a standard and is fully compatible with AMD Eyefinity and NVIDIA Surround multidisplay modes. The unit features a true six-inch cable length with polycarbonate connector heads and panel screw holes on the VGA end for a secure fit. Model 112786 is supplied new in black.

DisplayPort 1.2a practical limits

The DisplayPort 1.2a interface caps the output at 1920x1080p at 60Hz, so higher refresh rates or resolutions such as 1440p or 4K are not supported through this adapter. Because it converts a digital signal to analogue VGA, the adapter cannot carry audio or HDCP-protected content that requires a purely digital path. Bandwidth is limited to the 1.2 specification, restricting use to single-stream transport without Multi-Stream Transport daisy-chaining.

1080p headroom and constraints

The adapter comfortably handles standard office and productivity resolutions up to 1920x1080 at 60Hz for extended desktop or mirrored modes. It runs out of headroom for gaming at high refresh rates, colour-critical work requiring 10-bit depth, or any scenario needing resolutions beyond Full HD. The six-inch cable and fixed connector dimensions of 14.0 by 16.0 by 24.0 millimetres on the Mini DisplayPort side and 19.5 by 42.0 by 47.0 millimetres on the VGA side limit placement flexibility in tight spaces.
