Practical limits of bare-wire analogue speaker cable

Because the cable terminates in bare conductors, you must provide your own banana plugs, spade lugs, or direct screw-terminal connections at each end. The 12-gauge cross-section supports longer runs than thinner wire, yet voltage drop still increases with distance and amplifier power, so very long spans at high output may benefit from heavier gauge. No shielding is present, so routing parallel to mains cables can introduce hum. The single PVC jacket is not rated for in-wall or direct-burial use without conduit.

Verify that your amplifier or receiver binding posts accept 12-gauge bare wire or the connectors you plan to fit.
