What this cable does and who needs it

This USB4 Gen 3x2 cable connects two USB-C devices with a male-to-male, reversible plug. It carries 40 Gbps bi-directional data, drives an 8K display at 60 Hz with HDR 10-bit colour, and delivers up to 240 W of power when both the charger and the device support Extended Power Range. It suits users linking a laptop, Steam Deck, Switch, MacBook or eGPU enclosure to a dock, monitor or high-speed SSD.

Thermals noise and power in normal use

The built-in E-Marker chip negotiates PD 3.1, PD 3.0 PPS, QC 4.0 and other fast-charge protocols so the cable draws only the voltage and current the attached hardware requests, up to 48 V at 5 A. Because it is a passive copper assembly there are no active components to generate heat or audible noise during charging or data transfer. Backward compatibility with 180 W, 140 W, 100 W and lower profiles means the same lead works safely with older chargers without extra thermal load.

How it fits into a build

At 3.3 ft the cable reaches across a typical desk without excess slack, and the braided jacket resists snagging when routed behind a monitor arm or through a dock. It supports daisy-chaining up to six Thunderbolt 3 devices such as drives, displays or eGPUs, freeing additional ports on the host. Buyers who need longer runs for wall-mounted screens or who require a right-angle connector for tight chassis clearance will need a different cable.
