Innocard
Converts an M.2 NVMe drive to U.2 with a 12 V controller featuring 5.5 A output, 3.3 V hot-swap protection, SMBus level shifting and 400 W TVS
This Innocard adapter converts an M.2 NVMe drive to a U.2 SFF-8639 interface using a PCIe Gen5 signal path. It includes a built-in SFF-8639 connector with pin-out defined by SFF-9402 Rev 1.1. A PWM synchronous buck converter steps 12V input down to 3.3V for the M.2 device. The board is designed and made in Taiwan.
The card targets users who need to connect M.2 NVMe SSDs to backplanes or enclosures wired for U.2. Integrated protection includes a 5A fuse, 400W bidirectional TVS, Schottky rectifier, over-current, under-voltage, over-voltage and thermal shutdown safeguards. A 3.3V hot-swap controller with a 32m ohm NexFET MOSFET manages inrush current up to 6.5A. Builders needing a passive mechanical interposer without active power regulation should look at something else.
Under continuous operation the converter delivers up to 5.5A at 3.3V while the hot-swap MOSFET handles 6.5A maximum continuous current. Output discharge control and UVLO monitoring protect the drive during power transitions. SMBus level shifting between 1.8V and 3.3V domains remains isolated via an on-board 64KB EEPROM. Status LEDs indicate M.2 activity, 3.3V rail readiness and 1.8V rail readiness. ESD HBM rating is 500V.

The adapter uses the SFF-9402 Rev 1.1 pin-out, so the backplane must implement that revision.
The 5 A fuse, 400 W TVS and Schottky rectifier protect the rail regardless of drive current, while the buck converter supplies up to 5.5 A to the M.2 slot.
A steady green LED2 shows 3.3 V ready, green LED3 shows 1.8 V ready, and a blinking red LED1 indicates the M.2 drive is active.
