Network ports and uplink configuration

The HP 2620-48 Switch provides 48 Fast Ethernet ports for connecting endpoint devices across a converged enterprise edge. Two 10/100/1000BASE-T ports and two SFP slots deliver Gigabit uplink connectivity for aggregation or core links. The switch runs variable-speed fans to keep acoustic output low in open-plan deployments. An optional external redundant power supply can be added to protect against internal supply failure.

Sustained operation and thermal behaviour

Variable-speed fans adjust airflow to match load, allowing quiet operation during extended periods of traffic forwarding. The fan design supports continuous duty without the acoustic penalty of fixed-speed cooling. Free lifetime warranty and free software updates mean the platform remains supported throughout its service life. No PoE capability is present on this model, so powered devices must use separate injectors or midspan equipment.

Fast Ethernet limits and uplink constraints

Each of the 48 RJ-45 ports negotiates at 10 or 100 Mbps, capping per-port throughput well below the Gigabit uplink capacity. The two Gigabit uplinks, whether copper or SFP, represent the only paths that can exceed 100 Mbps, so aggregate traffic from multiple access ports will contend for that bandwidth. IPv4/IPv6 static and RIP routing are available, but advanced dynamic protocols are not included in the feature set.
