ESTONE OZG2 3×1 Toslink audio switch

What this switch does

The ESTONE OZG2 is a 3×1 Toslink audio switch that lets you connect three optical sources to a single SPDIF input on a soundbar, AV receiver or TV. It handles LPCM2.0, Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 signals at sample rates of 32, 44.1, 48, 96 and 192 kHz. Switching is manual or by the supplied IR remote, and the last-used input is remembered after power loss. It does not pass 7.1 formats such as Dolby Digital Plus or Dolby TrueHD.

Thermals noise and power

The unit draws 5 V from the included USB power cable and has no fan, so it runs silently and adds negligible heat to an equipment rack. An internal ESD protection circuit guards against static discharge on the optical ports. Optical fibre loss is rated at .2 dB per metre, allowing runs up to 40 m or 130 ft without audible degradation. Power consumption is low enough for any standard USB charger or TV service port.

Build integration

The black chassis measures 5.91 × 2.36 × .79 inches and weighs 11.9 ounces, fitting easily behind a TV or inside a media cabinet. Three Toslink inputs and one Toslink output are all that are required; the package supplies a 3 ft optical cable, an IR extension cable and a USB power lead. No HDMI, coaxial or analogue connections are provided, so buyers needing more than three optical sources or 7.1-channel pass-through must look elsewhere.
