It lets two listeners share audio while the device charges. The built-in DAC chip handles 24-bit 96 kHz output for clean stereo playback.

24-bit 96 kHz headroom and charging limit

The DAC supports 24-bit depth at 96 kHz sampling, so high-resolution tracks play without down-sampling. Two headsets can be driven simultaneously for shared listening. The Lightning pass-through accepts 2.4 A input, charging the host 1.5 times faster than basic adapters. The 3.5 mm ports are output-only and do not carry microphone or call signals.

Lightning audio and power constraints

The adapter draws its digital audio stream and charging current solely from the Lightning bus, so it works only on devices that expose both functions on that connector. It requires no external power or drivers. The copper-plated contacts and integrated decoder chip maintain compatibility across iOS updates from 9.2 through 16. The 3.5 mm jacks are strictly analogue outputs; they cannot be used for headset microphones or telephone calls.
