DJI Matrice 4 Evasive Radar

The DJI Mid-70 is a laser-based avoidance radar designed for Matrice 4T, 4E, 4D and 4TD aircraft. It combines circular sweep laser radar with millimetre-wave radar to detect obstacles in complex environments such as power stations and network lines. The unit weighs 235 grams and measures 103.3 by 64 by 85.8 millimetres. It is rated IP55 when used with the Matrice 4D series and operates from minus 20°C to 50°C.

Installation kit and firmware activation

The package includes the radar module, a transfer bracket for the Matrice 4 series, two internal hex wrenches (1.5 and 2.5 millimetres) and twelve reflective stickers for airport use. Installation requires the aircraft power to be off and the rear screws tightened by hand with the supplied tools. After fitting, all devices must be updated to the latest firmware and activated via the app before flight. The radar draws power and data directly from the drone's payload port.

Detection limits and environmental constraints

The combined sensor suite handles static and slow-moving obstacles in variable lighting and weather within the stated temperature range. It cannot actively avoid rapidly moving objects such as rotating windmill blades, moving tower cranes or flying birds. Performance is also limited in dense fog, heavy rain, snow, or areas with weak GNSS signals. Operators should verify normal radar operation before every flight and plan missions accordingly.
