Shielded Cat5e for EMI-heavy installs

This 100 ft Cat5e shielded Ethernet cable delivers a reliable Gigabit wired connection in gray. The shielded twisted-pair construction and shielded RJ45 plug reject EMI and RFI, keeping data clean in server rooms and PoE deployments where cables run alongside power and dense bundles. It supports Gigabit Ethernet (1000BASE-T) on the Cat5e standard and is tested to 350 MHz.

Upgrade from unshielded patch cords

Replace unshielded Cat5e or Cat5 patch cords when cables run near power lines, motors or in dense rack bundles where interference degrades throughput. The jump is worth it in data centres, server rooms and PoE camera runs where the extra shielding preserves the 1 Gbps link without packet loss. Unshielded cables remain adequate for short desktop runs in low-noise environments.

Practical limits of the Cat5e standard

The Cat5e standard tops out at 1 Gbps over 100 m, so this cable cannot carry 10 Gbps links regardless of its 350 MHz test rating. Shielding adds bulk and requires both ends to be terminated to grounded shielded ports for full effect; otherwise the drain wire floats and noise rejection drops. For 10 Gbps to 100 m you need a Cat6a-class cable rated to 500 MHz.
