USB isolation for industrial and debug use

The BESIGN USB Isolator ADUM3160 is a two-piece set of USB-to-USB adapter boards that provide galvanic isolation between a host computer and a connected peripheral. Each module uses the ADUM3160 digital isolator to break ground loops and protect sensitive equipment from voltage spikes up to 5 kV ESD. The integrated power isolator supplies up to 1 W to the downstream device, making the pair suited for industrial USB instruments and USB debugging hardware in electrically noisy environments.

Suited for low and full-speed USB gear.

These isolators operate only at USB 1.0, 1.1 and USB 2.0 full-speed rates of 1.5 Mbps and 12 Mbps. They are appropriate for developers isolating a USB debug probe, engineers protecting industrial sensors, or technicians working in noise-sensitive areas where ground-loop interference must be eliminated. Buyers who need to isolate USB 2.0 high-speed peripherals operating at higher signalling rates should look at a different isolation solution because this hardware does not support that mode.

Low and full-speed data rate of 1.5 Mbps and 12 Mbps

The single specification that determines compatibility is the supported USB signalling speed. The ADUM3160 chip inside each board handles only low-speed (1.5 Mbps) and full-speed (12 Mbps) traffic, so any device that enumerates as USB 2.0 high-speed will not function through these isolators. Confirm that your target peripheral operates at low or full speed before purchasing.
