AXGM-05 Door Lock Data Interface for GM vehicles

The Axxess AXGM-05 is a wire-harness data interface built for select 2000-2005 General Motors vehicles. It allows an aftermarket radio to communicate with the factory wiring while keeping original convenience features active. Installers use it when replacing the OEM head unit in non-amplified systems or when bypassing a factory amplifier. The module also retains balance and fade control from the original radio.

Thermals noise and power draw in normal use

The interface draws up to 10 amps at 12 volts to supply accessory power to the new head unit. It has no moving parts, so it produces no audible noise and generates negligible heat inside the dash. Power is only present when the vehicle’s retained accessory power circuit is active. The adjustable gain control lets the installer set chime and OnStar volume without adding electrical load.

What this replaces and when the jump is worth it

The AXGM-05 replaces the factory data connection that would be lost when the original radio is removed. It is required when the vehicle uses a Class 2 data bus for chimes, OnStar, retained accessory power and navigation outputs such as parking brake, reverse, mute and speed sense. The upgrade is worth it whenever an aftermarket stereo is installed and those factory functions must stay operational. It is not for vehicles outside the 2000-2005 GM application list or for systems that need low-level RCA inputs instead of high-level speaker input.
