Ready-to-use EL wire kit

The Adafruit EL wire starter pack Red 2.5 m 8.2 ft ADA-587 bundles 2.5 meters of high-brightness red electroluminescent wire with a pocket inverter, heat-shrink tubing, copper tape and foam tape. It is intended for hobbyists and makers who want a complete set for wearable or decorative lighting projects without sourcing parts separately. The wire is pre-cut and soldered so it works immediately with the included driver.

Maximum driven length 2.5 meters

The pocket inverter supplied with the kit is rated to drive a maximum of 2.5 meters of EL wire, which matches the exact length provided in the pack. Extending the wire beyond this length will exceed the driver's capability and result in dim or non-functional illumination. Builders needing longer continuous runs must use a more powerful inverter not included in this starter pack.

Accessories simplify assembly and durability

Heat-shrink tubes in two diameters protect solder joints when the wire is shortened or re-terminated, while copper tape provides the conductive surface required for reliable EL wire soldering. Foam tape dampens the inverter's audible whine during operation. These items reduce the additional tools needed to wire strippers, a soldering iron, solder and optionally a third-hand tool.
