Crystal HD decoder for compact systems

The YINGHUA AW-VD920H uses the BCM970015 media processor to provide 1080p hardware video decoding in a half-height Mini PCIe card. It targets builders of small-form-factor PCs, HTPCs, tablets and netbooks that lack discrete graphics but need smooth playback of common high-definition formats. The single-chip design draws under one watt, keeping thermal and power budgets low for mobile or embedded platforms.

Simple bracket swap for slot height

The card ships with a full-height bracket already fitted and includes the half-height 2.5 cm bracket in the package, so it fits both low-profile and standard expansion slots without extra parts. Installation is a standard Mini PCIe insertion; the only common issue is forgetting to swap the bracket before mounting the board in a slim chassis, which blocks the screw holes.

Mini PCIe bandwidth and format limits

The Mini PCIe x1 interface caps throughput, so the decoder handles 1080p streams but cannot accelerate 4K or higher-resolution content. Supported codecs include H.264, MPEG-2, VC-1, WMV9, MPEG-4, DivX/Xvid and AVS; newer standards such as HEVC are not processed. Systems must provide a Mini PCIe slot and driver support for the BCM70015 processor.
