The XV1-R is a handheld stereo audio recorder that captures sound in 32-bit float format, giving professional dynamic range without gain staging. It is built for musicians, podcasters, journalists and field recordists who need reliable capture in a device that fits in a pocket or mounts on a tripod. The X/Y microphone pair handles peaks up to 130 dB SPL, while a 3.5 mm mic/line input and a dedicated mic input let you connect external sources. Five recording profiles cover production, general, meeting, voice memo and concert scenarios.

Battery life and thermal behaviour

Two AA alkaline cells power the unit for roughly 12 hours of continuous recording, so long sessions run without external packs. The solid-state design has no moving parts, so it stays silent during takes and generates negligible heat even when recording high-SPL material for hours. Low-cut, gate, compressor and limiter effects are processed onboard with no audible fan noise or thermal throttling. The compact chassis remains comfortable to hold throughout extended use.

Upgrade path and fit

This recorder replaces older handheld units that record only in fixed-point formats and require careful gain rides to avoid clipping. The 32-bit float workflow removes that step entirely, making the jump worthwhile for anyone who regularly encounters unpredictable levels in live music, interviews or ambient field work. It is not suited for users who need multitrack recording, built-in wireless sync or internal storage beyond the microSD card slot.
