Practical limits of the disc method

The tester relies on floating discs to indicate the freeze point of the sampled fluid. It is calibrated only for ethylene glycol based coolants and cannot measure propylene glycol or other chemistries. Accuracy depends on drawing a clean sample at a stable temperature; hot coolant can cause splashing or misleading buoyancy readings. The tool provides no data on corrosion inhibitor levels or overall fluid age.

Installation ease and common issues

No installation is required; the hydrometer is a handheld instrument used directly at the radiator or reservoir. Users simply draw fluid into the chamber and read the floating discs. Common problems include misreading the scale if the sample contains air bubbles or debris, and cracking the plastic body if the tool is dropped or exposed to extreme cold while wet.
