One edge carries imperial graduations down to 1/32 inch while the opposite edge provides a 38 centimetre metric scale with millimetre marks. A character-counting scale in 1/10 inch increments and a line-counting scale in 1/6 inch increments sit between the edges. Sharp numerals and true edges ensure precise alignment on the page.
