Compact Raspberry Pi Camera Module

The Werleo camera module adds a 5 megapixel OV5647 sensor to Raspberry Pi boards including models 1, 2 and 3 plus A+, B and B+ revisions. It captures 1080p video and stills through a 3.6 mm adjustable-focus lens with a 1.8 aperture and a 75.7 degree diagonal field of view. Two onboard infrared LEDs enable night-vision recording without external illumination. The board measures 25 by 24 millimetres and includes four mounting holes for secure attachment.

FFC Connection And Adjustable Optics

A flexible flat cable links the module to the Pi’s CSI port, keeping the tiny PCB clear of other headers and allowing flexible placement inside enclosures. Focus is set manually by rotating the lens barrel, so the same unit can cover close-up macro shots or wider room views. The module supplies a 3.3 volt output that can drive additional infrared or fill-flash LEDs if the built-in pair is insufficient for a given scene.

Passive Thermal Design And Low Power Draw

With no active cooling, the sensor runs silently and relies on the bare PCB to dissipate heat during typical 1080p capture sessions. Power is drawn directly from the Pi’s CSI interface, adding only a modest load to the board’s 3.3 volt rail. The infrared LEDs increase consumption when night mode is active, but the overall draw remains well within the Pi’s standard supply budget for peripheral devices.
