Camera module with dual sensor options

This camera accessory provides two sensor choices in a single product line. The OV5693 variant uses a 1/4.0-inch CMOS sensor delivering 5 megapixel resolution. The IMX258 variant uses a larger 1/3.06-inch CMOS sensor delivering 12 megapixel 4K resolution. Both modules connect via High Speed USB 2.0 and operate without requiring driver installation. They are intended for machine vision and product vision applications needing compact imaging.

USB 2.0 bandwidth limits frame rates at higher

The USB 2.0 interface constrains the maximum data throughput available for video streaming. With the OV5693 sensor, MJPEG output reaches 30 frames per second at resolutions up to 1080p, but drops to 3 frames per second at the maximum 2952x1944 resolution. YUY2 uncompressed output is further limited to 5 frames per second at 1080p and 10 frames per second at 720p. The IMX258 sensor supports MJPEG at 30 frames per second up to 4K resolution and 60 frames per second at 1080p, staying within the interface capacity.

Choose sensor based on required resolution

The OV5693 module suits applications needing 5 megapixel stills or 1080p video at 30 frames per second with a 73-degree diagonal field of view. The IMX258 module suits applications needing 4K video at 30 frames per second or 1080p at 60 frames per second with a 75-degree or 120-degree field of view. Select the variant that matches the resolution, frame rate, and viewing angle requirements of the specific vision system.
