Sustained throughput limited by SATA generation

The USB 3.0 host caps the ceiling at 5 Gbps, so a Gen3 drive will not exceed the bus limit during long transfers. Backward compatibility with USB 2.0 drops the maximum to 480 Mbps if an older port is used. Hot-swapping is supported so drives can be changed without rebooting.

Check drive height and host port before ordering

The adapter only accepts 2.5-inch drives and will not power a 3.5-inch hard disk. Verify that the target drive uses a standard 22-pin SATA connector and fits the 2.5-inch form factor. Ensure the host computer provides a USB Type-C or Type-A port compliant with USB 3.0 for full speed, though USB 2.0 and 1.1 ports will function at reduced rates. No external power brick is included or required.
