This PCIe 5.0 x4 card adds a single MCIO female connector to a desktop or server motherboard. It targets builders who need to attach an NVMe U.2 drive or other MCIO device without a native port. The adapter carries PCI Express signals across the 4x link at up to 64 Gbps. Boot support is provided through UEFI 2.3.1 and NVMe 1.2 compliance.

Upgrade from boards lacking MCIO

The card replaces the need for a motherboard with an onboard MCIO header or a proprietary riser. It is worth installing when the platform has a free PCIe 3.0, 4.0 or 5.0 x4 slot but no MCIO connection for SAS 3.0/4.0, PCIe Gen 3/4/5 or 25G Ethernet at 56 GT/s PAM4. Systems that already expose MCIO natively gain no benefit from this adapter.

Under continuous load the link maintains the full 64 Gbps rate defined by the PCIe 5.0 x4 electrical interface. Signal integrity is preserved by the MCIO specification for SAS, PCIe and Ethernet protocols, preventing degradation during long transfers. The adapter contains no active cooling, so airflow across the bracket area determines thermal stability during extended operation.
