This Vszerda adapter lets owners of MacBook Air models from 2013 through 2017 and Retina MacBook Pro models from 2013 through 2015 install a standard M.2 NVME drive. It replaces the proprietary Apple blade SSD with a widely available module such as a Samsung 960 EVO, 970 EVO or PRO, WD Black, Crucial P1, HP EX920, ADATA SX8200 or Intel 600p series. The kit is intended for enthusiasts, gamers and 4K content designers who need more capacity than the original drive provides. Installation requires the machine to already run macOS 10.13 High Sierra or later.

Sustained write behaviour

Once the adapter is seated and a compatible NVME drive is fitted, the MacBook treats the new storage as a native volume. Sequential throughput and random IO are limited by the host MacBook's PCIe lane configuration and the chosen drive's own controller, not by the passive adapter board. Thermal throttling of the NVME module under heavy, prolonged writes will follow the drive's own firmware curves because the adapter adds no active cooling. Boot times, application launches and large-file copies remain consistent for the duration of the workload.

Thermals and power

The adapter itself draws negligible power and has no fan or moving parts, so it adds no audible noise to the system. Heat from the NVME SSD dissipates through the MacBook's existing chassis and heatsink arrangement exactly as the original Apple SSD did. Power consumption matches that of the installed NVME drive; the board introduces no measurable overhead.
