Verbatim M-DISC BD-R discs store 25 GB of data on an inorganic recording layer that is engraved rather than dyed. The 25-pack spindle supplies media rated at 4X write speed for compatible Blu-ray burners. Designed for long-term preservation, each disc targets a projected lifetime of several hundred years based on ISO/IEC 16963 testing. The branded printable surface accepts hub-printable labels for identification.

Upgrade from dye-based recordable discs

Conventional BD-R and DVD-R media rely on organic dyes that fade with light, heat and humidity exposure. M-DISC technology replaces the dye with a rock-like layer that is physically etched by the drive laser, removing the chemical degradation path. The jump is worth it when the archive must survive decades without migration, such as legal records, scientific datasets or family media libraries. Standard dye discs remain adequate for short-term transport or temporary backups.
