The Tycon TP-POE-48 is a passive Power over Ethernet inserter that delivers 48V at 24W over standard CAT5 cable. It suits installers who need to power remote wireless access points, IP cameras or VoIP phones where no local mains outlet exists. The unit accepts data on a shielded RJ45 input and outputs both data and power on a shielded RJ45 jack using pins 4,5 for positive and 7,8 for negative voltage. Its compact enclosure measures 3.4 x 3 x 1.4in and weighs .4lb for flexible placement.

Upgrade from non-PoE midspan injectors

This inserter replaces a separate data switch and external power brick by combining both functions in one midspan device. The jump is worth it when cable runs reach up to 100m or 328 feet and the powered device requires 48V passive PoE on the specified pinout. Built-in short circuit, over current and over voltage protection plus high temperature operation reduce field failures compared with unprotected adapters. The "R" model variant reverses the voltage polarity on pins 4,5 and 7,8 for equipment that demands it.
