The Transition Networks SM24TAT4XBNA is a managed Gigabit Ethernet switch with 24 copper ports running at 10/100/1000 speeds and 4 dual-speed SFP+ slots for 1G or 10G uplinks. It delivers PoE+ power on the copper ports for devices such as IP cameras or wireless access points. Network administrators gain full Layer 2 management features for traffic control and monitoring.

Rack Mount Setup and Uplink Modules

The unit installs in a standard equipment rack using the included brackets and connects to AC mains for both system and PoE power budgets. Copper links auto-negotiate speed and duplex, while each SFP+ slot requires a compatible 1G or 10G transceiver module purchased separately. Forgetting to match transceiver types on both ends of a fiber link is the most common cause of a dark port.

SFP+ Distance and PoE Budget Constraints

Fiber reach is limited by the specific SFP+ modules chosen, not by the switch itself, so multimode optics will restrict runs to a few hundred metres while single-mode units extend to kilometres. The total PoE+ output is capped by the internal power supply, so loading all 24 ports at maximum Class 4 draw may exceed the available budget. The four uplink slots share the same backplane bandwidth as the copper ports.
