Compact Smart Plug for Voice-Controlled Homes

The TP-Link ET01 is a compact smart outlet that connects to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network and works with Alexa, Google Home and SmartThings. It is aimed at homeowners who want to automate lamps, fans or small appliances using voice commands or a smartphone app without replacing existing wall sockets. The round mini design fits alongside a second outlet on a standard wall plate.

2.4 GHz Wi-Fi Only with App-Dependent Setup

The plug communicates solely over a 2.4 GHz wireless band and requires the Smart Life app for initial pairing and ongoing control. Bluetooth on the phone is used during the first connection, but the device itself does not support 5 GHz networks, Ethernet or Thread. Scheduling, timers and remote access all depend on an active internet connection and the cloud service behind the app.

Replaces Manual Switching and Basic Timers

This unit upgrades from mechanical plug-in timers or simple on/off switches by adding voice activation, randomised away modes and countdown functions. The jump is worthwhile when you need remote control from outside the home or want to coordinate several plugs with a single tap in the app. It does not suit installations that require 5 GHz connectivity, local-only automation or hard-wired in-wall devices.
