Front-panel USB-C adapter

This adapter connects a motherboard 19-pin USB 3.0 header to a front-panel 20-pin USB 3.1 Type-C A-Key connector. It lets builders add a USB-C port to cases that only expose the older internal header. The part is aimed at system integrators and enthusiasts updating an existing chassis without replacing the board. It does not increase the signalling rate beyond what the header already provides.

Sustained throughput behaviour

The link runs at the 5 Gbit/s rate native to the USB 3.0 header, so large file transfers hold that speed for the duration of the copy. Protocol overhead and cable quality are the only factors that reduce real-world throughput. The adapter does not convert the 5 Gbit/s channel to 10 Gbit/s, so sustained writes remain capped at the header limit. Users should expect performance consistent with a direct USB 3.0 connection.

Thermals noise and power

The device is a passive wiring assembly with no active components, so it generates no audible noise and adds negligible heat to the chassis. Power for connected peripherals is drawn directly from the motherboard header within its rated current budget. No external power connector or driver installation is required for normal operation. The adapter simply passes through the existing power and data lines.
