USB 2.0 to RS485 Converter

Sustained industrial communication

The CP2102 silicon maintains stable throughput over long cable runs without the dropouts common in consumer bridges. Built-in 15KV ESD and TVS protection guard the host port against transients on the RS485 line. This hardening keeps the link alive in electrically noisy cabinets. The converter stays responsive during continuous polling cycles.

RS485 bus practical limits

The RS485 standard supports up to 1000 metres of cable at modest baud rates, but real distance depends on cable quality and termination. Only one driver may transmit at a time, so half-duplex timing must be managed in software. The 5V0 pin can power small remote nodes if total draw stays low. Bus loading and stub length still constrain node count.
