Lock-Slot Security for Slim Devices

The Targus DEFCON Compact Serialized Combo Cable Lock secures notebooks and tablets equipped with a Kensington Nano lock-slot. Its keyless design uses a unique combination and serial number, removing the need for a master key. A patented retrieval process helps recover lost codes, while activity reports are available for registered locks. The compact form factor suits thin-and-light hardware.

Durable 6.5 ft Galvanized Steel Cable

A 6.5' galvanized steel cable resists cutting and stands up to daily handling. The 360-degree rotating head allows effortless locking from any angle without stressing the slot. An adhesive-backed security base plate with screws provides a fixed anchor point on desks or tables. Black finish keeps the setup discreet in office or travel environments.

Upgrade from Basic Keyed Cables

This lock replaces standard keyed cables that require key management and lack code recovery. The jump is worth it when multiple users share a device or when lost keys would halt work. Buyers who need a second lock for a different slot type or who prefer a traditional keyed mechanism should consider other models.

Questions about this item

How do I install the Targus DEFCON Compact lock on my device's Kensington Nano slot, and what step is often missed?

Insert the lock head into the Kensington Nano slot, rotate the 360-degree head to align, then set your unique combination. The step often missed is registering the lock's serial number to enable the patented code-retrieval service and activity reports.

What maintenance or replacement will the galvanized steel cable and lock mechanism need over time?

The 6.5 ft galvanized steel cable resists cutting and wear, while the combination mechanism has no keys to lose. No scheduled maintenance is required; replace the unit only if the cable shows fraying or the dials become stiff.

What is the first limitation I will hit when securing a notebook or tablet with this 6.5 ft cable in daily use?

The 6.5 ft cable length limits the distance between your device and the anchor point. The lock fits only Kensington Nano slots, so it will not work with standard Kensington or wedge slots.
